My story...

A lot of people ask me about my story and how I became a full time wedding photographer, so I thought it was about time that I wrote a little blog post about me and my journey.

For those of you that don't know me, I'm Jade, a full time wedding photographer based in Ivybridge, Devon. I live with my family and my gorgeous chocolate cockapoo Bailey, who never leaves my side in the editing office. He is of course sat next to me as I type this! He's a bit of a mummy's boy.

My journey into photography began when I came across a bag of old film cameras that my grandad had left, he was very much into his photography and videography, and he was a very creative soul. So I'm told, I never really got to know him personally, he passed away when I was three, but my family have always shared some wondrous stories about my grandparents adventures.

Devon wedding photographer my story

After finding the bag of old dusty cameras, I was so intrigued. I started studying photography when I got a little older, and then went onto getting my Bachelor of Arts at Falmouth University in Editorial Photography.

After university, I went into Marketing- I was in a great job, but I always just felt like something was missing, that I didn't really know myself at this point. Which is why I decided to pick up my camera and start shooting again, and my passion for the art just flourished.

I started Ivyhouse Photography in October 2021, truly never knowing where it would lead me. If you told me five years ago that I'd be giving up my full time job for my own business I would have told you that you were insane! But, I'm here, living my absolute dream every day as professional photographer in Devon. Capturing stories of so many, from wedding couples to families and new borns, telling stories and creating pieces of art, it truly is the best job in the world.

I get asked about the name Ivyhouse quite a lot - how did I come up with it? Where is it from? And it came from a very important time in my life. I had just moved to Ivybridge with my partner and we brought out first home, hence the name, Ivyhouse.

A little piece of my grandad and his story still lives on through me and his film cameras. I've always found film photography to be so beautiful, and studying it through my degree definitely gave me an appreciation to the art. I love to capture a polaroid shot with my couples at the end of their day, it's a sweet little keep-sake for me and the fact its on film, just has a totally different feel to it than a pic on a phone.

My vision for Ivyhouse is pretty simple, to continue capturing stories and heartfelt moments in every frame I take, wherever that may be in the world.

Some people have asked me where can I see my business going, and truly I can say that I have so many ideas about what I want to do but I know they will all come in good time.
