A Beautiful Winter Wedding at The Great Barn, Exeter | Jessica & Freddie
Some weddings just stay with you, and Jessica and Freddie’s stunning day at The Great Barn in Exeter was definitely one of them. Not only was it a truly magical winter wedding, but it was also my last wedding of the year—and what a way to end an incredible season!
A Classic & Stylish Celebration
Jessica and Freddie’s day was a perfect mix of timeless elegance and festive warmth. They chose to have their ceremony at a beautiful local church, which added such a classic and meaningful touch to their day. Seeing Jessica walk down the aisle in her breathtaking wedding dress—featuring the most stunning statement bow—was a moment I’ll never forget. The way Freddie looked at her as she made her entrance was pure love.
Speaking of Freddie, he and his groomsmen absolutely nailed the black tux look—a trend I’m seeing more and more for 2025 weddings. There’s something so effortlessly sophisticated about a classic black tux, and it contrasted beautifully with the rustic charm of The Great Barn.
Subtle Festive Touches at The Great Barn
When we arrived at The Great Barn for the reception, the styling inside was just perfect. The venue’s natural beauty was enhanced with subtle Christmassy hints, from the twinkling fairy lights draped across the beams to the elegant Christmas trees that added a touch of seasonal magic. It felt warm, intimate, and oh-so-romantic.
Before the heartfelt speeches and delicious food, we stepped outside for golden hour portraits. The winter light was soft and dreamy, creating the most gorgeous backdrop for Jessica and Freddie’s couple’s session. The love between them was so natural and effortless—it made capturing their connection an absolute dream.
TOP TIP: If you're currently planning a winter wedding one big thing to consider is lighting throughout the day. There isn't much day light from October onwards, so it's best to discuss timings with your photographer to make sure you can get everything running super smooth on your day when it comes to capturing the photos you want.
A sparkling end to an incredible year
As the evening celebrations kicked off, the energy in the barn was electric! The dance floor was packed, the music was on fire from Adam in The Hat and everyone was ready to party. But before the night came to a close, we had one final, unforgettable moment—an epic sparkler exit. There’s nothing quite like that magical glow of sparklers, and seeing Jessica and Freddie run through a tunnel of their closest friends and family was the perfect way to end their wedding day (and my wedding season!).
The Great Barn is one of my favourite venues to shoot at locally. Its combination of rustic charm, stunning architecture, and gorgeous surroundings make it a dream for wedding photography. Every corner of this venue provides an opportunity for beautiful, timeless images.
Jessica and Freddie, thank you so much for allowing me to capture your special day. It was such a joy to document every moment, and I couldn’t have asked for a more incredible wedding to wrap up my year.
